Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to ride a horse to learn to play polo?
No! At Polobear you can learn the sport from the ground up, no experience required.

Do I need to own my own horse?
No. We provide the horses to start and as skill level advances you may want to purchase your own polo pony. Polobear has a string of excellent polo ponies who are experts at teaching both new and experienced riders the exciting sport of polo.

What equipment do I need for a polo lesson?
Nothing!  Polobear provides everything from the horse, to mallet to helmet.  If you have your own equipment and would like to bring it, please feel free to do so.

What should I wear to the lesson?
Please wear jeans or riding britches and boots or hard soled shoes with a heel.

Can I use my own horse for a polo lesson?
We recommend that your first polo lesson be on one of our horses.  However, many non polo ponies have been converted to be able to play the game well.

What will I do in a polo lesson?
Your first polo lesson will entail a brief explanation of polo rules, mounted riding instruction and hitting technique. As you progress in your game, we will pair you with other players of similar skill levels so you can practice in a game environment.

How long does a polo lesson last?
A typical private polo lesson lasts about an hour.  Group polo lessons take about one hour and thirty minutes.
